Journalist Academy: June 2014 Update
Students of the 6th session of the Journalist Academy (JA) concluded their ninth and final class on June 4, 2014!
As a continuation from the last workshop, students were encouraged to analyze and edit their work. From examining the steps to formulate effective sentences, to reviewing proper grammar structure tailored for journalism, JA students were able to utilize the skills that they have learned from previous classes.
After the workshop, students were invited to talk over their experiences through surveys and discussions – they were also surprised with Certificates of Completion!
The students discussed various issues, from the difficulties of transitioning from the different spelling and grammar rules used in North Korea, to the importance of organizing their narratives into clear and well-written essays. Luckily, the last three months of the JA program have provided students with opportunities to grow and improve!
I think I now understand how to write, overall. I have also learned what rules I have to follow when editing.
I liked that I have acquired necessary skills needed in writing through the Journalist Academy. Examining newspaper articles from different sources helped as well.
