Since 2010, NKSC has been providing writing classes to student defectors. Students in North Korea do not learn how to express and organize their ideas and are unable to write reports and letters. These writing classes help student defectors to improve those skills and as result, help them to adapt to South Korea. Writing class sessions usually take place twice a year, during the winter and the summer. For the session coming next summer, we are expecting 15 students to attend and 15 others to attend during the winter 2015 session. Since the creation of this program, 110 student defectors attended the classes. Each session is divided into 10 workshops in the summer and 8 in the winter. These classes have a proven track record for success. Students surveyed in one session improved their writing skills by 30%. Students give positive feedback and sometimes attend more than one session.
