Canada North Korean Human Rights Day International Conference was held in Ottawa and Toronto from September 27 to October 1, 2013. This event was organized by the Council for Human Rights in North Korea (HRNK) Canada. NKSC staff members accompanied NKSC Executive Director Kang Cheol Hwan to the event.

On September 27th, Kang Chol-Hwan with NK Gulag representatives Ahn Myung-Chol and Chung Gwang-Il carried out an interview with Canada’s National Post.

Mr. Kang Choel-Hwan then gave a speech of the internal changes occuring in North Korea and the situation of human rights. He also pointed out the ways in which the international community could help North Korea.

On September 28, there was an event held at the Korean Association Center in Toronto. Honorary Jason Kenney, Honorary Chris Alexendar, together with MP Barry Devolin attended the event.

On the final day in Toronto, Lee Jung Hun, the human rights ambassador for the South Korean government, shared his comments and views in a meeting. The roles of NGOs in human rights activism, and the interest of people with North Korean human rights were discussed in this meeting. He also gave an opinion about future funding for defector-run NGOs.
