Human Rights Film Festival

NKSC collaborated with Amnesty International Hong Kong and North Korea Defector Concern (NKDC) on the second North Korea Human Rights Film Festival carried out from August 22- 24, 2014. The festival took place in the Hong Kong City University.

NKSC took two defectors, writer Ji Hyun Ah who wrote ‘ Miles for Freedom’ and former political prisoner Jung Gwang Il. Both guests shared their stories and views with Hong Kong media such as South China Morning Post,  Apple Daily, Ming Pao, and Next Magazine. Other media also covered the film festival such as SBS,Voice of Korea,and Radio Free Asia.

The film ‘The Defector’ was screened on Saturday August 23 and was followed by a sharing sessions led by Ji Hyun Ah. The movie ‘Camp 14’ was screened on Sunday August 24, and was followed by a sharing session led by Jung Gwang Il.

Hong Kong citizens showed high interest and support for North Korea’s human rights issues particularly on the repatriation of North Korean refugees. NKSC staff and defector guests truly enjoyed working for three days with Amnesty International Hong Kong and NKDC.
