NKSC is a defector-led, non-partisan think tank that undertakes research and promotes action on North Korean issues based on principles of freedom of expression and freedom of information.

The fall 2015 internship offers the unique opportunity to work directly with the defector community in South Korea supporting research interviews and leadership training. Additionally, interns will be engaged in NGO project management and international advocacy. Thus, working with NKSC will allow interns to work at the North Korea human rights forefront and grassroots level. NKSC has two internship positions and seeks for a commitment for a minimum of three to six months. Read about previous interns’ experiences here.

Requirements:

  • University Student or Undergraduate Degree

  • Language: Fluency in Korean/ Proficiency in English

  • Experience volunteering or working with other NGOs

  • Strong writing, analytical, and communication skills

  • Multi-tasking

  • Pro-active

  • Passionate for North Korea human rights

Responsibilities:

  • Translation (Korean/English)

  • NKSC social media

  • Media relations

  • Engaging the international community in South Korea with North Korea human rights (speaker series, public events, English exchange programs, etc.)

  • Logistical and execution support of defector leadership training programs.

Skills Obtained:

  • NGO Management / Public Relations

  • Project Execution

  • Translation on North Korea human rights key documents and papers

  • North Korean refugee empowerment

  • International Advocacy

This internship is unpaid however strong candidates may be offered full-time employment.
