Alex

I really enjoyed my three months working at NKSC, and managed to survive the whole experience without seriously messing anything up. I was involved in planning and implementing a variety of projects, ranging from a Speaker Series to a study group to an international cultural event. I was given a lot of freedom to concentrate on creating and developing new project ideas, but at the same time was also working closely with the international affairs department on certain projects as well. I feel like I have learnt a lot during my time at NKSC about North Korea and the importance of NKSC’s work smuggling USBs across the border, and have had the opportunity to meet and chat with many defectors. The atmosphere in the office is really great and has made working at NKSC all the more enjoyable. The first day I arrived we tried to make North Korean ddeok out of cornflour (but instead ended up making a sticky yellow-ish mush), and the office always makes sure to celebrate people’s birthdays with cake and the ever-present party hat. I’m really going to miss everyone here and I’m sure I will visit again in the future.
